What happens, in order
You say yes
Tap the seller's link and confirm your mobile with a code. No account, no password, and no card at this point.
They drop it in, and photograph it
The seller puts it in a compartment here and photographs it sitting inside before they close the door. You get that photograph.
You authorise the payment
Held, not taken. Nothing leaves your account, and you get your collection code.
You come and open the door
Hold your code up to the scanner. Your door number appears and that door opens. Look at the item before you touch it.
After you inspect it
If it is not what the photographs showed, flag it in your collection page within 15 minutes of collecting it, with a photo. The hold is cancelled. If you do nothing, you receive a notice before the held payment goes to the seller.
Why you pay before you open it
It is the fair half of the arrangement. The seller has already driven here and handed their item to a machine on the strength of your word, so the door will not open for anyone whose payment is not held first. That is what protects them.
What protects you is that held is not paid. The amount is reserved on your card and nothing is taken while you decide. If you flag a problem with a photo within 15 minutes of collecting it, the hold is cancelled; if you do nothing, you receive a notice before it goes to the seller.
If it is not what the photographs showed
Photograph it and flag it in your collection page within 15 minutes of collecting it. The hold is released and you are not charged.
What gets recorded
The seller's photograph is timestamped. If you refuse it, yours is recorded too.
The seller takes one at drop-off. You take one if you flag a problem. We keep both with the time they were taken.
It costs you nothing.
Buyers pay no fee here, whether the handover happens or not. You pay the seller's asking price and not a cent more.
SwapBox does not inspect, value or authenticate the item, and does not check who the seller is. What it does is hold the item, hold your money, and keep the photographs until you have looked.
